Installing Presences
Install, configure, update and remove presences from the website or the extension side panel, and test that activity is detected.
What presences do
A presence tells Nowly how to read one website. It runs only on the addresses listed for it, and only after you install it. The extension runs the presence, and the desktop app sends the result to the Discord app.
Install a presence
From the website:
- Open a presence page in the library.
- Wait until the page detects the extension.
- Click Install.
From the extension: open the Library tab of the side panel, search for the platform and install it there.
Both ways download the same signed package. The extension checks its signature and hashes before registering it, and refuses a package that was modified.
After installing, reload the tabs of that website once: a tab opened before the installation does not run the presence yet.
First test: YouTube
Install the YouTube presence, open a video on youtube.com and press play. The side panel shows Activity detected, then your Discord profile updates within a few seconds.
Presence settings
Open a presence in the side panel to see its settings. They depend on the website. The most common ones are:
- Show browsing activity: off by default on most presences, which then only share what you are actually watching or listening to.
- Privacy mode: hides titles, artists or names, so Discord only shows the platform.
- Show buttons: removes the buttons that let your friends open the same page.
- Language: the language of the text shown on Discord, when the presence ships several.
You can also snooze a presence (1 hour, 4 hours or until tomorrow) or give it its own sharing schedule.
Update or remove a presence
Updates are offered in the side panel and on the presence page. You can remove a presence from the side panel or from its library page. Removing it stops Nowly from running anything on that website.
Test a presence you are writing
Presences in development are loaded locally, without the library. See Load and Test Locally.
